What if...

Grandma Mary

What if Grandma wants to come home?

Last winter Grandma Mary was leaving her 1950's home in the Richmond area. She walked down the steep stairs, slipped on a patch of ice, and was immediately transported to the local hospital. Grandma Mary was admitted into the hospital. She underwent surgery and was then ready for release.

The hospital's care coordinator and Grandma Mary's nurse recommended a live in rehabilitation facility. Mary's family was concerned because Grandma Mary hated staying at the hospital and worried about her slipping into depression if she couldn't return home.

Grandma Mary has lived alone in the same home for more than 50 years. She has no living children and only 1 living grandchild, which is 28, married, and has 3 small children.
The family has approximately 2 days to find a rehab facility, an in home care arrangement, or other arrangements.

Where should the family start?
